Role Purpose:
Reporting to the Leading Hand/Supervisor, a Scaffolder is a member of the Operations Team.
The role of a Scaffolder plays a crucial part to ensure the safety and efficiency of various high level construction worksites. This includes the erecting, altering and dismantling of scaffolding (temporary structures) to provide secure and safe work platforms, enabling other construction professionals to work safely at heights.
Work will consist across a range of environments from large-scale commercial, mining, construction, maintenance and shutdown projects all within a variety of resource sectors, making the role vital for the successful completion of all projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Actively demonstrate and maintain a positive attitude towards work, by being adaptable to change, working respectfully and showing a willingness to collaborate with others, always exhibiting a high level of professionalism and workmanship in delivering good customer service.
Carry out tasks to assemble and dismantle temporary metal scaffolds, platforms and staging appropriate to the project specifications and layout designs in accordance with contract/agreed requirements and time limits.
Checking site conditions and preparing the foundation for installation of scaffolding. This includes complying with legal, environmental and health and safety requirements to help identify hazards, defects and the needs for adjustment or repair to ensure compliance with agreed codes, laws and safe working practices.
Transport scaffolding equipment to and from the worksite, including the inspection of equipment in identifying any damage or defects prior to erection, in line with safety guidelines to prevent accidents or injuries. In addition, using appropriate lifting equipment to hoist scaffolding materials to the desired height.
Daily Duties include:
- Preparation and Documentation:
- Obtain necessary permits: Ensure you are signed on to all required permits for scaffolding work before starting any operation.
- Pre-start Inspection: Ensuring your direct supervisor has conducted an area inspection to confirm it is safe for scaffolding activities, ensuring the work zone is free from hazards.
- Ensure you have signed onto JHAs (Job Hazard Analysis): Review and sign off on relevant JHAs to acknowledge understanding of potential hazards and safety measures in place.
- Pre-Work Safety Measures:
- Tool and Equipment Check: Inspect all scaffolding tools and equipment to verify they are in good working condition and meet safety standards.
- Safety Card: Complete a safety card and checklist to verify that all safety measures and protocols are understood and will be adhered to during the task.
- Erecting Scaffolding:
- Lay Foundations: Mark the area and set the base plates securely to ensure the scaffold’s foundation is stable and level.
- Assemble Structure: Construct the scaffold step by step, ensuring all components are securely fastened and aligned according to Australian and New Zealand scaffolding standards.
- Install Safety Platforms: Integrate safety platforms and guardrails to provide secure access to elevated work areas, ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
- Securing scaffolding to permanent structures using appropriate ties and braces and conducting regular checks and maintenance of scaffolding equipment when directed.
- Modifying Scaffolding:
- Assess Requirements: Determine modifications needed to assist trades in accessing specific work areas at safe heights.
- Execute Modifications: Adjust the scaffold structure while ensuring stability and safety standards are maintained.
- Dismantling Scaffolding:
- Plan and Prepare: Assess the scaffold structure and environment, ensuring all necessary safety measures are in place for dismantling.
- Remove Components Systematically: Safely disassemble the scaffold in a systematic approach, ensuring all team members are aware of their tasks and maintaining secure handling practices.
- Site Cleanup: Clear the area of debris and materials, leaving the worksite tidy and hazard-free.
- Final Safety Checks and Documentation:
- Inspection and Certification: Conduct a thorough inspection to confirm the scaffold is constructed and/or dismantled to standard, documenting any findings or necessary adjustments.
- Area Handover: Communicate with the supervisor for final approval and handover of the area.
- Continuous Safety and Standards Compliance:
- Mandatory Qualifications: Work only with crew members who are fully qualified and understand the relevant AUS & NZ standards.
- Adhere to Safety Protocols: Maintain ongoing compliance with safety regulations, promoting a culture of safety and excellence.
This comprehensive process ensures scaffolding work is performed efficiently, safely, and in accordance with all applicable standards. Always prioritize safety and communicate effectively with your team and supervisors to maintain a secure working environment.
Key Selection Criteria:
- Prior demonstrated minimum 2 years’ experience in scaffolding or construction highly desirable, including requisite knowledge of tools, equipment and materials common to the trade.
- Being able to understand technical drawings and plans, exhibiting good problem-solving skills, having good written and verbal communication skills and being proficient in Microsoft suite.
- Ability to work confidently at heights, mostly working outside in all weather conditions with awareness of health and safety.
- Have the capacity to maintain good physical health and fitness in a physically demanding environment, including but not limited to lifting, standing, bending, squatting, having good hand-eye coordination and dexterity.
Responsibilities include:

- Comply with all safety directives and work instructions.
- Immediately report any incident or potential hazard to their supervisor.
- Co-operate with the business with respect to any action taken by the business to comply with a requirement imposed by relevant legislation.

- Passport or Visa – Mandatory for VEVO purposes
- National Police Check – Only if requested by site
Required Licences/ Tickets:
- Working at Heights – Mandatory within 2 years
- High Risk Licence – Mandatory
- VOC (Scaffolders) – Mandatory within 2 years
- First Aid Cert – Preferred but not essential (unless placed in supervisory role)
- White Construction Card – Mandatory
- Gas Test Atmosphere – Preferred but not essential
- Confined Space – Mandatory within 2 years
- Rail Infrastructure Worker (RIW) – Preferred but not essential
Indicative Days & Hours of Work:
- Monday to Friday with occasional need for weekend work as required to meet the requirements of the role and business priorities.
- Flexible hours within the core business hours of 06:00am-06:00pm.
- Shift / Rostered Works maybe required
- Occasional overtime.
